Violin Lessons

The lessons are tailored for beginners, improvers or advanced players. Young players can hire violins, which are specially set up by a luthier (a craftsperson who builds or repairs string instruments) and includes both quality strings and bow hair. Each violin is serviced before the rental.
For the violin beginners there are are several methods used including Violin ABC, Violin Star, Fiddle Time series and Abracadabra Violin. Depending on the student, the most suitable method is chosen. The learning material can also be mixed to suit the purpose of each lesson.

For improvers and advanced learners there is a wide range of technical exercises regularly prescribed to improve various aspect of playing. Amongst the others, these include scales, studies and études by Dancla, Wohlfahrt, Sevcik, Kayser, Mazas, Kreutzer, Fiorillo, Rode, Dont, Wieniawski and Paganini. Students are required to complete a minimum of at least 4 quality studies in the academic year.

The correct posture and student set up is critical in development of the young violinist; there is a constant emphasis on correct posture and establishing student's good violin holding habits, which enable relaxation and therefore a richer sound quality.

The pitch is a critical element of violin playing, therefore violin students undergo additional aural exercises during the instrumental lessons to try to overcome barriers and obtain a better understanding of the relationship between fingering and the pitch produced.

Students are encouraged to play in violin and piano duets; students are also regularly accompanied on the piano by the teacher.

All students are guided to take graded ABRSM or Trinity College London practical or performance exams to show off their skills and hard work.

Non regular students can also request a masterclass. Each masterclass focuses on specific material that the student is currently learning. Masterclasses are not considered regular lessons.
